This is what I need for my LC II

MicroMac Networking: LC-PDS 10BaseT and 10Base2 Ethernet Adapter

Found a networkcard for my new LC II... pretty swank.

12 pounds of Flav-or-Ice

is in my room... only like a pound is in the freezer, because it is one of those little divided off spaces that is colder than the fridge (I think the freezer is what makes my fridge cold, i constantly had frozen Frescas last year)

I just thought 12 pounds was cool, wonder how much is plastic?

So I think...

that they purposefully slow down "Ground Shipping" over at FedEx this is my package it has been sitting in FT Worth since yesterday... couldn't they just bring it on over?

New Mouse

I was using a great, cheap, small, two-button, scroll-wheel equipped, mouse that I bought for 20 bucks at staples a year ago. But it started getting funky... not tracking for a while, and turning off while I was trying to use it. So I broke down and bought a new mouse (using Staples a rewards coupon... (I'm suposed to hate staples, because the Lakers play in the staples center but the staples in Stephenville Texas is above top notch. And they give my Mom all sorts of discounts because she shops there all the time (she runs her publishing company out of her home, and the staples copy center))))))))) (or however many I need)

The Mouse (yeah talking about a mouse) was a Logitech Click! mouse.

It is awesome... It tracks on stuff my old mouse would choke on on the best of days (solid black... reflective green (from a population sign)... other assorted stuff) and has adjustable buttons. The right mouse button isn't automatically ctrl-click which is weird... and the scroll wheel takes some adjusting to get how I like it. Also there is this fourth button that is pretty useless as it is (I could write some apple scripts for it, but that would require me to learn applescript.) The application switching function that it defaults to is kinda buggy... It shifts around seemingly at random, so it is a crap shoot wether you will land on the one you want (you'd think it would rotate through in order kinda like it says it will) Right now I have it set to mute... It can do brightness, but only in one direction so that is useless... I think it can also log you out, but I don't do that much (now if it was a SUPER log out that preempted every process and immediately took you to the login screen that would be worth something... but as far as I know it isn't)

There... if you can make your way through the petty ramblings, and juvenile mish-mash... you get a possum

Woo... HOoo!!!

I just used my CD burner and Toast Titanium to rescue a broken CD.

My Civ II CD wasn't working... a nasty scratch in the space where the writing is, between the clear part and the write surface (on the inside... the hole side) That doesn't even make sense to me... well it kinda does, but I wrote it... Just think really hard and it will come clear... looking at a CD will help...

Anyway... the CivII CD would mount, but the data part wouldn't... I just got music. So I made a copy in Toast, and it seems to work (the data part mounts... I haven't tried installing, but I bet it works since the scratch is limited to the non-write surface)

By the way Civ II is way better than Civ III... I wish Civ III wasn't as slow as .... something slow, but it is, so therefore it sucks... even people on "BLAZING FAST ALIEN-FREAKING-WARE" PC's have said it sucks cuz it's slow, so don't dog the Mac... Who needs graphics... it is Civ... take the graphics and throw them off a cliff... And do something to make the computers move faster after 100AD... Civ multiplayer is faster.

So it is Civ II in classic mode for me... now if I could just get Word 5.1 to work :)

Java port of text based classic... pretty cool

You can never go Hom...

The 'ol town of Stephenville is filling up. As Tarleton State University students arrive for school, the streets fill up too... Also there are lots of High Schoolers letting off steam after their first week of school. I'm glad I'm going to school

Got a Mac Laptop? You need...

uControl This preference pane does lots of things, but the reason you have to have it is that when you hold down the function key (or any key or combination you pick) your mouse becomes a scroll wheel in whatever window the cursor is in... pretty cool...

If you have a desktop mac and feel left out, you can use this to turn your mouse into a 2 direction scroll wheel... horizontal scrolling and vertical... even diagonal.

This app rocks

Goodbye Nick... Maybe.

I just heard that the Mavs have made a trade with Golden State.

Basically it is Nick Van Exel for Antawn Jamison. (but Fortson is interesting)

Goodbye Nick... we will miss you here in Texas.

(I have heard that Nick could option out of the remainder of his contract after this year and become a free agent... if that happens, and he does like Dallas, he might sign for the MLE... that would be AWESOME)

This trade hasn't been approved, and won't be until Monday when the NBA offices open.

All info gleaned from MavTalk

Ever played Dope Wars?

Great game on the Palm Platform... You buy drugs and sell them, trying to make money (you know buy low/sell high...) Much better education than D.A.R.E in my opinion ;-)

Well, there is a net game that is kinda like 'ol Dope Wars. It is pretty fun... Sign up here (if you use that link, I get bonus turns in the game.)

Why I like Pay Pal

I use PayPal in conjunction with my bank account even though I don't do much eBaying. Here are the benefits:

  • Check Card (free)

  • Money Market Account (free) (right now earning about 1.09% on my PayPal Balance... It is like a CD with no specified length... when the money is there you earn money on it, when you want to use it you can.)

  • Easily and securely pay money to many online stores. Without worrying about if they take Dollars or Euros or Yen.

  • Easily and securely receive payments (or donations)

  • Fraud Protection.

  • The only drawback I see is that it is not FDIC insured... so the Money Market (if you sign up for it) can lose money...

If you want to sign up, Get $5 and get me $5 also. The catch is you have to finish 5 steps to get the $5... The hard ones are transferring $250 from your bank account, and deciding you do want to sign up for the Money Market Account. But if you do, you get $5, and so do I (only if you use the link above :-) )

    Not so Cool Stuff

I am sending in my Dad's iBook to Service Net today to get it fixed. I can't find a Service Net web page, but here is a page that gives info on them. I would not recommend these guys over AppleCare, they don't cover as much, and they are only about 50 bucks cheeper.

Also, I still haven't fixed the unexpected quitting problem I have been having... I have tried repairing permissions and that didn't work.

Another unfixed problem I have been having is the links on the main column here are both underlined and dotted underlined. I thought I had it fixed, but it still does this

fotolog is still spotty but I guess it is ok.. my gold camera membership is about to expire...

    Cool Stuff

Ok... My CD's are burning 2x faster (16x now) my DVD's are burning at 2x (instead of 1x) I can write to DVD-RW and DVD-RAM (not tested yet, but with the other stuff working, I believe it) How? I applied this patch to my Powerbook 12".
Thanks to XLR8yourmac for the link.

    lots of PC crap

I searched for "lots of PC crap" on some of the top Manufacturer's sites... lets see how they did:

HP's top page was their MediaCenter 864

Dell was hard to figure out... most of the hits went to their "Learn More" pages (wonder what you learn there) but the page that returned computers was at least a refurbished computer sale

Gateway cut the crap (so to speak) and took me straight to their products page

Alienware doesn't have a search box that I can find, but they have some quotes from funny magazines on this page. A bunch of nerds reading Playboy, Stuff, FHM, Entertainment Weekly, and Spin is just plain funny.

    Unexpectedly Quit...

DarkAdapted, iSwipe, and Celestia are all applications I have used before, but now every time I launch them they unexpectedly quit. They are all shareware or freeware. I wonder if there is any connection between these apps quitting?

    Why in the world...

...do I get a system beep and no response the first time I push Delete in Mail.app? There is no dialog box to tell me why it is mad, and the second time i push delete it works. I can't figure out what causes this... But it happens anytime I push delete for the first time within a text box...

    S.W.A.T.

Saw S.W.A.T.... it was pretty good, but I'm a softie for just about anything with Samuel L. Jackson in it...

    **Spoiler**
I did think the part where all units were deployed to the airport on the other side of town was pretty weak... But otherwise it was pretty good.

I guess it makes sense that most of the stuff I read while trying to do this sounds really paranoid... I'm not so paranoid, but I want to be able to send messages with "Pretty Good Privacy" if I need to...

    LaunchBar Redux

I wrote an entry about LaunchBar a while ago. For some reason LaunchBar has decided to slow down... This comes with a general slowing down of the entire system that I cannot figure out. I have logged out, restarted, and everything... But things just seem like they are underwater or something.

I tried to speed up LaunchBar by removing the scan for Documents, URL's, and Music Files. Not because the scan took too long, but maybe it will search a smaller index quicker. I mostly use LaunchBar to launch applications anyway, so I shouldn't loose too much functionality.

    I can't wait for Panther...

    A Guy Was Searching...

...for "Anarchist's Cookbook v2000" on MSN search... and hit my site. The funniest thing is that this is what the page told him:
    3. Dwight::Knoll
... Anarchists... (Besides the fact that they have a hard time organizing) they used Word 6 in the process of producing the Anarchist's Cookbook v2000. ...

The best way to support Bush...

... is to support Howard Dean.

    Financial stuff

I compared Bank of America's CD's to PayPal's money market account. To get comparable interest with BoA you have to deposit for 2 years. PayPal lets you take money out whenever you want.

    Business Idea

So, I'm thinking of trying to make some extra money to pay off my camera and computer. Tell me what you think of this deal. (This springs from a visit to This ProEx Photos immediately after working hard on scanning and fixing a bunch of old family photos for an event our family had.)

"You send me your old family photos, I scan them and send you a CD with the photos" (plus your photos of course)

    For pricing I was thinking:

Basic-- Pictures scanned in and saved as TIFF files on a CD. No editing. $100 per master + 10 cents a picture. (regular pictures are about 2-3 MB in TIFF format so around 300 pics a CD)

Cheeper-- Pictures scanned in and saved as JPEG files on a CD. No editing. $100 per master + 25 cents a picture. (Many more pictures... I am not sure the total number, but closer to 1000 than 300)

What do y'all think of this pricing?

How much should I charge for fixing up a picture? (that ProEx above is exorbitant... starting at 50 bucks for a single picture...)

I could run the pictures through a auto fix up pretty easily and that makes them look about 100% better (old ones)...

    People would pay through paypal...

    Should I charge for shipping?

    Last Question: Anyone interested?

    fotolog redux

    Fotolog officially doesn't stink anymore.

I posted a bunch of new ones today... check them out

    Good Idea...

**an aside... I have pretty inane titles, because my RSS (which is free) doesn't include the title, just the first 5-7 words...**

The Dallas Stars are starting a Junior Hockey League that only costs $99 bucks for all the equipment, ice time, coaching etc.

I'd do it, if I lived near Dallas, were young enough, and uhh... can't think of a third reason to finish the list... but 2 is enough to end it :)

    My favorite quote is:

We really want to drop that notion that hockey is a white-collar, elitist sport. --Kent Holmes, Executive Director of Hockey Programs at the Dr Pepper StarCenters.

Yeah, considering that it has the lowest paid pros of all the sports (or pretty low... I don't know about american soccer... and arena football doesn't count, or woman's basketball*)

*hey, have a problem with that? leave a comment ;)

    Reframing Paul

We preach grace, then subtly demand performance. We preach grace, then purge those deemed to be in error. We preach grace, then too often ignore the cries of the abused, the weak, and the hurting. We preach grace, then gag those conversations that we cannot control.
Mark Strom, author of Reframing Paul from an interview by Leighton Tebay

Iron Giant Next movie on my list

I have been watching a bunch of pretty awful movies... not only a waste of time, but a waste of money as well. I have decided I won't watch a movie unless someone I trust recommends it (directly or indirectly.) (Unless it is LoTR, or Matrix, or X-3 those I know I'll like)

So Iron Giant is next on my list. Real Live Preacher recommended it

    Here's my idea

Someone needs to make a 4 port (or whatever) USB hub that has a built in Bluetooth antenna that can transmit all of the stuff coming in from peripherals. They make things you can plug into your printer's parallel port that will allow the printer to work over bluetooth, but I'm thinking all USB (1.1 of course, but hey do 2.0 at 1.1 speeds.) peripherals like scanners, palm cradles, etc. that way I can take my computer anywhere in the room (you can tell I live in a dorm) without losing the use of all my peripherals. I really want wireless headphones (but I don't want to have to deal with changing batteries, so it would have to have a charging cradle and cancel noise, and weigh 1 ounce.)

But my idea would allow any USB device to be wireless.

Headphones and mice wouldn't be good to use in this because there would still be a wire to the device.

I didn't really articulate this well towards the end... but I bet you kinda get what I am trying to say... if not...

    post a comment :)

    fotolog

    fotolog officialy stinks...

I have been trying to upload pictures all day for the last week, with no luck. I get various errors from my browser telling me it cannot load any information for that page to fotolog telling me to check and see if my data is not corrupt. I have tried IE, Camino, and Safari, all to no avail... I payed 5 bucks so I could put 5 pictures a day on the site... I did that once (the first day after I payed) and since have only been able to load one picture (at all, across 5 or 6 days)

    USA Original Picture

My dad is about to watch a USA Original Picture starring Steven Segal... talk about Double Whammy... the only way that could get ANY better would be if Richard Gere or Martin Sheen was in it.

Just got back from Caprock Canyons State Park. Let me just say that if anyone says Horny Toads are going extinct they need to go to North West Texas. And if they say it is the fireants that are killing them, they need to go to Caprock Canyons State Park. Lots of Fireants and lots of Horny Toads.

My mom, dad, and I are going to Caprock Canyons State Park tomorrow to take some pictures. I hope that my fotolog will start working, but if it doesn't I will post a couple here.
