I got Gmail

I am now the happy owner of a gmail account dwightk@gmail.com...

I'm just testing it out, so don't start sending me emails there. It really sucks because I have to use a different browser, but otherwise it looks alright.

More to come

Confessions

I have been using artificial passions. Today I was watching the Mavs-Kings playoff game, and realized that I was way too wrapped up in the outcome. I don't even know who won game 4 (the mavs were down 5 with a couple minutes left.) I know every Mavs player, and what their strengths are, and I know most of the starters for every other team (at lest the good ones.) I have been following other sports rather closely too. Also I have been playing lots of video games (2-3 hrs a week,) but at the same time I complain that I don't have time to do stuff that really matters, like hang out with all the people who are graduating this year. Two weeks ago, I stopped reading 15 blogs a day. This week I am going to stop worrying about sports so much.

My problem is this: I need a new passion to replace my old one. I want to convert all this passion to passion for God, but I don't know how. If you have any suggestions, please offer them. I'll be praying...

Thought

Couldn't think of a better title... sorry.

I have never been a very social person. I prefer a good book to a person 7 times out of 10, but I went ahead and attended the last two St. John's social events, a waltz party a couple of weeks ago, and a cotillion tonight, following the Croquet Match between SJC and Navy. (thats a mouthful)

There were some skills I had to dust off: Small Talk, and Swing Dancing. There were some new skills I had to learn: Dealing with Drunk people, Avoiding Cigarette Burns, and Finding a place to Dry Clean my Jacket. I told my brother this stuff, and then told him, "It sure is easier to just sit around, and also, when I am not able to do all this stuff, I won't miss it." I was right, but I don't care. I have been sitting around all my life, always doing just the minimum... I really need to get of my butt.

Is it a coincidence...

that both Doonesbury and Get Fuzzy have been running series of comics on amputated legs of soldiers in Iraq? Did I miss some big news story or something?

I'm Back

...Had a good week... I was kinda fasting from Blogs, and stuff... it was refreshing. I am going to be doing a lot less blog reading from now on...

My external Hard Drive crashed this weekend, which is why I stopped uploading pictures (I have started again)... It looks like it will work again, so my massive photo library and music library won't be lost forever...

Those new new powerbooks are hot... and by that I mean awesome...

Stars got kicked by the avs... Mavs are down 0-2, and the Rangers are tied for 2nd in the AL West (moving to lone possession or possibly tied for 1st soon )

ugg (go rangers!)

What I did this Easter:

Just got back from a Russian Orthodox Easter service, in English and Russian, it started at 11:30 ish and went to 4 ish. It was quite an experience. I might be able to put some of it into words at some point in the future...

Now I am listening to Bach's St. Matthew: Passion until sunrise, then I will probably sleep for a while, and go to the Christian Fellowship Easter dinner around 5ish.

There are some Easter related pictures at my fotopage

Easter

Tonight I am going with my friend to an Orthodox Easter service. Usually Orthodox Easter is on a different day than Catholic/Protestant Easter, but this year they are the same. (I deleted three ellipses in the last two sentences, I realized that I have started using them for periods or commas, and they don't really make sense...) ;-)

I will try to give my impressions here when I get back (around 3 am)

MavTalk

404'ed... the system is down yo...

I think that they should get it back up running, so I can post again...

Love

Love is something more stern and splendid than mere kindness... There is kindness in Love: but Love and kindness are not coterminous, and when kindness is separated from the other elements of Love, it involves a certain fundamental indifference to its object, and even something like contempt of it. Kindness consents very readily to the removal of its object--we have all met people whose kindness to animals is constantly leading them to kill animals [or abort babies] lest they should suffer. Kindness, merely as such, cares not whether its object becomes good or bad, provided only that it escapes suffering. As Scripture points out, it is bastards who are spoiled: the legitimate sons, who are to carry on the family tradition, are punished [see Heb. 12:8]. It is for people whom we care nothing about that we demand happiness on any terms: with our friends, our lovers, our children, we are exacting and would rather see them suffer much than be happy in contemptible and estranging modes. If God is Love, He is, by definition, something more than kindness.

MP3Concept Trojan Horse

Intego reports that there is a virus out for Mac OS X. Be careful opening mp3 files from shady sources.

** This can apparently also affect other types of files. Just don't type in your administrator password if some file you downloaded off the internet asks you to when you double click on it and you should be safe.**

***Because of the way this trojan horse works, it has to be encoded if it is to be transmitted. So don't open any mp3's that you get which are "foo.mp3.sit" or "foo.mp3.hqx" or .tar or .dmg, or anything else you have to decode before you can open.***

Sports Report

I am excited... The Mavericks are going to the Playoffs, The Stars begin playoffs against Colorado tomorrow. The Rangers are looking young, and exciting, although they lost their season opener (4-5), they were in it, and it was the A's for heaven's sake. (Kenny Rogers lasted 6 innings for the no decision) Also the Cowboys are looking a lot better than they have recently.

LaunchBar vs. Quicksilver

I posted recently about Quicksilver, another application launcher... I was pretty impressed, but the morning after, it has lost its glitter... Also, LaunchBar Beta 4 is out. It is faster than LaunchBar3, which was my main problem with it... 4 is also faster than Quicksilver...

I hope the competition heats up... Quicksilver does some cool stuff, but LB is about 1/2 the size (and 2x as fast)

The jury is still out, but for now, when I log in, LaunchBar automatically launches.

What Country are you?

[I'm] Thailand!

Calmer and more staunchly independent than almost all those around [me],
[I]have a long history of rising above adversity.  Recent adversity has led to questions
about your sexual promiscuity and the threat of disease[???]
, but [I] still manage to attract a
number of tourists and admirers.  And despite any setbacks, [I] can really cook a good
meal whenever it's called for.  Good enough to make people cry.

What Book are you?

[I'm] The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy!

by Douglas Adams

Considered by many to be one of the funniest people around, [I am]
quite an entertainer. [I've] also traveled to the far reaches of what [I] deem possible,
often confused and unsure of [my]self. Life continues to jostle [me] around like a marble,
but it's shown [me] so much of the world that [I] don't care. Wacky adventures continue to
lie ahead. [My] favorite number is 42.

Man's wisdom vs. God's Wisdom

Is a good idea always a Good idea? Reading C.S. Lewis' The Problem of Pain this afternoon, something struck me. He says something along the lines of:
If God's wisdom is greater than Man's, not everything God does is going to make sense

So, when I see really good ideas, but have a feeling that I shouldn't partake, could it be that this really good idea isn't a real Good idea?

Ok... umm why can't people make a real loop for DVD Menus? I've never seen a DVD that didn't come to a screeching halt, and begin again at the beginning of the Menu video. Lets just get this one right guys...
