The Passion ended up...

...with 26.5 Million on a non-holiday Wednesday opening... pretty impressive. This weekend even more people are going to go see it (I predict.)

Thursday, February 26

I will reserve final judgement until...

...I have seen it, but let it be known that I am disappointed to see that Billy Bob Thornton is playing Davy Crockett in The Alamo

Also as I heard that it was a controversial movie, so I assumed that meant that it was relatively historically accurate... but the previews don't seem to bear that out.

Passion: possibly ahead of Fellowship, slightly behind Return of the King

These are just preliminary numbers

Posts like this are just me saving pages for later use :-) (it would get lost in my bookmarks)

It's been a while...

My family has been up to visit me, so I have had other things besides posting to my blog on my mind. They went home today, so its back to the grind for me.

On Wednesday I'm going to the opening of The Passion of Christ with 78 other people.

Not quite as traveled here... and I was only 3, but I have some pretty vivid memories...

Almost getting run over by the Tour de France (or at least that is what my mom would have me to believe)

Yanks, Rangers have A-Rod framework

Why are they trading the best player in baseball for anything besides a Cy Young winner? Can anyone tell me that?

New Remix

On recommendation from my friend Stan Thompson I mixed two of my tracks together... it sounds kinda cool.

Oh yeah, and I remixed the strings/horns track, and replaced it, so if you just re-download it, it is the new one....

I'll have to put up a page with all the links to it... someday

A New Song!

Here it is!

It doesn't sound quite right... I might remix it, as the horns sound kinda whimpy.

Tuesday, February 10

If you are listening to these songs and thinking...

..."dude needs to keep his day job." Check out some of my pictures... In the least self-promoting way possible, I have some pictures at my fotolog that I think are really cool.

Apple's Garage Band is neat...

Great Bear Bryant Quote

From RealGM: Bear Bryant once said "There are winners who know they're winners, and losers who know they're losers. Then there are guys who aren't winners but don't know it. Those are the guys for me. They're the soul of our game."

Bugs in Finder?

Has anyone else been noticing some weird behavior by Finder? I was just trying to delete a file, so I hit cmd-Delete after having selected the file. After a lag of 3 seconds, I heard the trash "click" noise, and the column-view window I was in poped back to a completely different folder. When used the back button to get back to the folder I was in, the file was still there. Dragging that icon into Terminal, I got a path for the trash... so I rm -r 'ed it, and closed the window. When I got navigated back to the folder, the alias I had created, to get to it from another folder on another drive, was gone...

This is just one of a series of weirdnesses I have experienced...

3 Types of Salvation?

The Salvation we have received, the salvation we are in the process of completing, and the salvation we hope to attain.
Might some involve some input from our side, not so that anyone can boast, and not by our own strength, but still, some effort?

Garage Band is pretty Cool

I have been messing around with Garage Band for the last couple hours... If you want you can get an MP3 of my results.

It is pretty easy to use... I wish I could turn down the graphics effects though... stuff can get a little choppy on my Powerbook. Another problem is the lack of non-4/4 loops to mix. I can't wait to try actual recording with it and see if it all works... until then enjoy MyFirstSong ;-)

Stephen Wolfram: A New Kind of Science | Online

I don't know if it is any good, but this $42 1200 page book is available free on-line (legally)

If I wasn't reading Kant right now I would look into it. (Not to be a snob, but Kant had a pretty broad definition of science which I bet covers this "new" one :-P )

Virtual Knee Surgery

COSI's Virtual Knee Surgery Exhibit

Hey dad... check this out... this is what is going to happen to you!

Fotolog to get some Financial support... (Finally)

Article

This is good news... (at least for me) it means I may be able to upload my 6 pics a day I paid for

I got PithHelmet back up...

by using the steps below... But I also have a custom style sheet that will pick up some of the stuff (incase pithhelmet is off, which I have to do sometimes to get to some pages... like real.com) If you want you can pick it up here

Also iPhoto 4 is much better than before... I still wish that they wouldn't lock the pictures up in such an arcane file structure in finder... but since it seems almost fast enough, I think I will go with it for a while and see how it works... I have taken 9GB of pictures since I got my camera in June 2003... I am about to burn a couple DVD's and start deleting the bad pictures from my hard drive.

To get pithhelmet working again

Taken from Version Tracker: "If you use PithHelmet and have updated to Safari 1.2 you'll notice it doesnt work. Here is the fix that should work until PH gets a proper update.
open /Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins/
Right click (control click) PithHelmet.bundle and select 'show package contents'
Open the info.plist file in either BBEdit or Property List Editor if you have the dev tools installed
Find where it says MaxSafariBundleVersion and change the value to 125
Save and restart safari. thats it, now it works.

If you need to install 0.7.2 fresh on a box with Safari 1.2 already on it, you'll need to do the following:

1. Download and open the PithHelmet folder
2. Navigate to the Packages subfolder
3. Right-click (ctrl-click yadda yadda) the PithHelmet.pkg file and select 'Show Package Contents'
4. Navigate into the Contents/Resources subfolder
5. Open the file InstallationCheck in a text editor (I used TextEdit)
6. Chage the string 100 in the line:

exit((1 6) | (1 5) | 16) if ($1 != 100);

to 125 and save the file.
7. Install as usual by running the regular PithHelmet.mpkg package
"

Just as I got...

...PithHelmet working* to block ads in my browser, Apple updated Safari and broke it again.

*It wasn't working before, because I couldn't install it, because I didn't have the BSD subsystem installed, and I couldn't install the subsystem because my Jaguar upgrade disks are at home.

Got iLife today...

I am importing all my pictures into iphoto (around 5000ish) It is supposed to be fast... lets see what this baby can do. I like the ideas of smart playlists, and rankings and stuff... the problem is there is no CDDB which i can download metadata for my pictures from. That is mostly because I took all the pictures, but still... It will take me about 5 or 6 months to get all the tags filled out.

I am excited about messing around with Garage Band... but I have a paper to write, and Kant to read, so that must come later.

I was disappointed to see that Apple fell into the tendency to name software after a year (iLife '04, Macromedia Studio MX 2004, Office 2004 (formerly Office v.X on the Mac, actually presently v.X, 2004 hasn't arrived yet)) Bad idea... For reasons I would love to expostulate on in the comments, in response to any questions you have... (but you probably won't because it is so obviously a bad idea :-P)
