What do you do if you have a stack of RW's and you want to erase them?
from:
macosxhints
I have never really gotten into CD-RW's. It is just easier to buy a big spindle of 100 CD-R's. I use CD-R's liberally, and still don't run out of them very often... But If I did get into the RW trend, I'd go for this...
I think RW is actually kind of useless, since it doesn't work like DVD-RAM.
In Toast, it says my drive is a DVD-RAM/CD-RW drive... I have tried burning to RAM, but it didn't work... Anyone hear if Panther added this capability to 12" PB Superdrives?

IQ?
The Classic IQ Test
"Congratulations,Dwight!
Your IQ score is 136
This number is the result of a formula based on how many questions you answered correctly on Emode's Ultimate IQ test. Your IQ score is scientifically accurate; to read more about the science behind our IQ test, click here.
During the test, you answered four different types of questions -- mathematical, visual-spatial, linguistic and logical. We analyzed how you did on each of those questions which reveals how your brain uniquely works.
We also compared your answers with others who have taken the test. According to the sorts of questions you got correct, we can tell your Intellectual Type is a Visionary Philosopher.
This means you are highly intelligent and have a powerful mix of skills and insight that can be applied in a variety of different ways. Like Plato, your exceptional math and verbal skills make you very adept at explaining things to others -- and at anticipating and predicting patterns. And that's just some of what we know about you from your IQ results.

ImageHauler
Well if I ever upgrade my digital camera, It will be a Canon, and I will use this software: ImageHauler lets you view pictures you just took on your computer monitor. One of the problems I have with my camera right now is that the screen is only like 340x200 or something so things can look in focus but not be in focus really.
Of course I would also need a computer with a higher resolution (ideally) Mine is only 1024x768... I hope Apple comes out with 12" PBs that have higher resolution soon.

why cheeptickets.com sucks
(yes I misspelled it, that way I won't be sending them many links :) )
So you put in your itinerary... they show you the possible flights...
why do they suck?
1> they don't tell you where the connections are (they just report: "(1) stop", the 1 is linked to a page which details the stop
2> they don't include airport taxes in the first price...
but that's not all:
3> they make it look like the airport-taxes were an unexpected change
I'd recommend steering clear of there

Ice
It is kinda cold here... not freezing, but...
There is a pile of ice outside my window that a caterer dumped out on Saturday evening... It is still about the same size it started out...
This winter is supposed to be even worse(aka better) than last year with the blizzard and stuff... I can't wait :)

Mail.app...
has to be the worst program I have ever used...
I have been in denial before this, because it goes for months without any trouble, but occasionally terrible stuff happens.
Right now, it "checks" my mail in three POP accounts, but it doesn't really... So I have messages which I am not receiving... It used to be that quitting the application and starting it again would "shake something loose" and it would work again, when that failed I could sometimes log out and the problem would go away... Now nothing seems to work but deleting the account and re-entering all the info, then it downloads all of the old messages which I have already read...
I downloaded Eudora just now to see if it worked better (used to swear by Eudora) But guess what they used Stuffit Installer Maker for their installer, But guess what else... the other bug that has been bothering me is an inability to run Stuffit Installer Maker Installers...
(why would anyone use an installer in OS X? Just use a disk image and I will drag the app to the applications folder)
I hate it when my computer doesn't just work...

Experiment at U.C.L.A.
"Experiment at U.C.L.A.
Professors at the University of California Los Angeles recently performed an experiment in an attempt to compare vehicle force and speed period. They drove a vehicle into a brick wall at 60 mph and then measured the impact. They then dropped another vehicle from a height equal to a 10 story building and measured the impact. Surprisingly, both of these readings were the same.
Thus, if you are driving your vehicle at 60 mph on the highway and strike a fixed object, the effect would be similar to driving your vehicle off of a 10 story building."

90% Marketshare Myth
newsobserver.com - Hackers enter via Window
There are people who have said to me: "Give Apple a 90% market share and see how many viruses (yes, viruses, not viri (as in cactus and cacti) but that is another argument) it has"
Well there would probably be more than they have now, but the lack is not only because of market share. Apple's operating system really is more secure than Microsoft's.

Adbusters "Corporate Flag" campaign
So, what is their plan? Make magazines w/o ads that cost more? What is going to stop powerful people from taking advantage of their power? It sure is nice to have these sorts of "problems:"
so, trade corporate rule for...
yeah.
A rebellion is building. Thousands of protesters shake up every global trade conference with calls for less corporate clout and more grassroots power.

Before you adopt one of these, you should probably adopt at least 100 of these, or 1000, I dunno what is 1 person worth in dolphins? whales?

Hmm...
From Dictionary.com:
From hyperdictionary.com:
While some other definitions don't include "of humans" those are all literary uses of the word... Don't think these guys are on the same level as Shakespere.
What is the difference between "to kill" and "to murder"?
(Also those pictures are absurd)
The Taiji fishermen know that while Sea Shepherd crew remain in the area, they can not commit mass murder of dolphins without it being documented and being further exposed in the media, a major form of embarrassment in Japanese culture.
Hmm...
From Dictionary.com:
Murder n. The unlawful killing of one human by another, especially with premeditated malice.

uControl 1.3.6b It's back... it works with Panther... It does lots of stuff besides turning your trackpad (in conjuction with the fn key) into a 2d scrollin' machine... but that is why I use it!
Didn't know that:
According to I DRIVE SAFELY: "Every intersection where streets with sidewalks meet 'at about right angles' has a crosswalk for pedestrians to cross the street even though there may be no painted lines."

Fox News Never Was Going To Sue Fox
Names & Faces
A couple of days ago people were reporting that Fox News was going to sue Fox entertainment because of fake news crawls on the Simpsons. Lots of people reported it because they don't like Fox News... Now the news comes out that Groening was kidding when he was talking to reporters... Wonder how many people are going to report on this?
