Mother Teresa...

[Thanks to Real Live Preacher for the link]

I was reading an article that RLP referred to in one of his recent posts when I came upon this:
How else could this unremarkable woman [Mother Teresa], no different from the rest of us, bear to throw her lot in with the poorest of the poor, sharing their meager diet and rough clothing, wiping leprous sores and enduring the agonies of the dying, for so many years without respite, unless she were somehow lifted above it all, shielded by spiritual endorphins? Yet we have her own testimony that what made her self-negating work possible was not a subjective experience of ecstasy but an objective relationship to God shorn of the sensible awareness of God's presence.
-- from The Dark Night of Mother Teresa Carol Zaleski, First Things

A relationship with God isn't about the pleasure He gives us, or about staying out of Hell. God's work is not motivated by fear, or hope for a reward. But the relationship still exists, the work is being done... What do you think "its about"?

Hello Stranger...

Hey... Just some news... the City of God discussion group has started back up again...

I bought a years worth of fotolog membership, so I will be putting up to 5 (or 6?) pictures a day there... And the wrong picture bug seems to have worked itself out...

I like Texas...

that is all I can think of for now :-P

Oh the irony...

Well, the food here a college is pretty bad... you expected me to say that didn't you? But get this... the ice cream (while remaining worse than anything to be had in TX) is too good. Yep, a college student complaining about food that is too good. The only thing worth eating is the ice cream... so I do... too much... so I won't... anymore.

Vicarious

The word vicarious has been misused by the people around me, and therefore by me... wordnet says:
vicarious
adj 1: experienced at secondhand; "read about mountain climbing and
felt vicarious excitement"
2: (medicine) occurring in an abnormal part of the body instead
of the usual site involved in that function; "vicarious
menstruation"
3: suffered or done by one person as a substitute for another;
"vicarious atonement"

I was thinking it meant completely or to the full extent possible, but it actually means 2nd hand, or in the place of... (Christ was a vicarious sacrifice for the sins of man...)

Still having Fotolog trouble

Hey... just a quick note... keep looking at my fotolog and look at "older" pictures, because certain pictures are getting stuck as the default, and I am uploading new ones, but they aren't selected as active.

But I am talking to someone at fotolog about it...

Howdy...

It has been a while. Just a little public service announcement. I have very limited outgoing email, so AIMing me is the best way to get a response (even if i am away.) If something requires an email I can kinda rig it so I can send, but it is hard.

Also, I have kinda sprained my ankle. So I have found that it is best if you don't tell me anything you don't want anyone else to know if there is any possibility of torture being involved... This thing doesn't hurt that much, but I would tell anyone almost anything to get rid of the pain.

On with your lives...

Wow!

Also, the acclaimed 20-volume Oxford English Dictionary is celebrating 75 years in print. In honor of this special anniversary, we've dropped the price to only $895.00 - the lowest price ever!

That is amazing... I've never seen a 20 volume dictionary... just the big honkin' unabridged one that school libraries have.

Well, there is a 20 volume "Grove's Dictionary of Music" in the music library where I work, but that doesn't really count.

Although...

...it looks like my mom (and maybe Dad now that he is wirelessly "wired" (thanks Apple)) are kinda hitting my site hard, I am interested to know who the person(s) who are coming from webtv to view my site. I didn't even know that WebTV was still around. How does my site look in that browser?

Stupid Web Stuff

I have finally seen my site (this here site) on a PC and all I can say is: I'm sorry. It looks great on my Mac browsers... even IE (which isn't a currently-being-developed browser now.) I'm sorry you PC people are unable to see my page as it should be seen. I am not cool enough, nor do I have enough time to make my site look good on all y'all's computers. Sorry...
